Absentee Bid
When a client cannot attend an auction, they may indicate their maximum purchase price. Our staff will bid on your behalf and do its utmost to purchase the lot for you at the lowest possible amount.Auctioneer
The auctioneer isn’t just a smooth talker, they are experts, salespeople, and performers who land multi-million peso bids with only a gavel and their voice. After the artworks themselves, the auctioneer is the most important factor at an auction as they can make a big difference in the value of a sale.Buyer’s Premium
The buyer’s premium is the amount above the hammer price that is paid as part of the total purchase price. The buyer’s premium is set at 15 percent, which, with value-added tax (VAT), comes out to 16.8 percent. The sum of the hammer price and the buyer’s premium comprises what is called the “total purchase price.”Fair Warning
A fair warning is given by the auctioneer that the hammer is about to come down on the lot. This signals the last chance for the bidders to keep going and increase their bidding before the lot closes.Hammer Price
It is the price upon which the auctioneer’s gavel falls, determining the sale price, but does not include the buyer’s premium.Phone Bidders
Often, clients prefer to relay their bids to a trusted representative who is present at the auction. Through phone bidding, a member of the Salcedo Auctions staff can call you directly from the saleroom to bid on your behalf.Lot
A lot is an individual object or group of objects offered for sale at an auction as a single unit. It is the number assigned to the item for sale.Paddle Number
Clients are given an assigned number on the paddle when they register. This paddle is raised when they want to bid to gain the attention of the auctioneer. This number is to identify the client when they win.Provenance
Provenance traces the ownership journey of artwork, from its creation by the artist to its acquisition by our consignors. Examples of provenance documentation:- An original and signed Certificate of Authenticity from the artist or their reputable heirs
- Original gallery sales receipts
- Verified statements of ownership and photographic documentation from past owners
Reserve Price
A reserve price is the minimum amount the consignor is willing to accept. Any offer for the lot below this price will not be sold. At Salcedo Auctions, the reserve price is always published at or below the low estimate printed in our catalogue––ensuring the fairness and transparency of the auction process and the reliability of Salcedo Auctions’ prices.- Aldron Anchinges
