88 x 109.5 x 58 cm (34 3/4 x 43 1/4 x 22 3/4 in)

Quick Overview

A piece of uniquely Filipino furniture, this table was essential in the kitchens of large houses in the days before refrigeration.

Akin to the popular Gallinera (“chicken sofa”) this table temporarily housed chickens — gathered from outdoor gardens & placed in the slatted area underneath the table top — until the household cook would instruct domestic helpers to butcher the chickens for cooking. Set on four sturdy, honey-colored molave legs, this lively and elegant example has a stylized flower carved into the central sliding door, and narra slats surrounding all four sides.

The table top has a central panel in narra, set within a molave frame.
