By the 1980’s, New York-based Alfonso Ossorio began exploring some of his early Surrealist and figurative motifs. This particular artwork was done on the occassion of an exhibition mounted in the Oscarsson Hood Gallery in 1984 entitled ‘Bioscapes’ in which Ossorio created intaglio prints inspired and displayed alongside the poems of physicist and etymologist, Dr. Lewis Thomas. In the center of the drawing is a stylized version of a signature he would use in his work–an intersecting AO surrounded by jagged edges and primitivistic eyes.
