An excavated gold buckle

This 18k excavated gold buckle was once part of a belt or sash. These waist ornaments have not been found anywhere else in the world, although the workmanship and design elements have Hellenistic - Asian affinities they represent the height of ancient Filipino gold artistry. Until today it is the symbol of power in traditional societies in Mindanao.
