Lee Aguinaldo (1933–2007)

Untitled

1953

Mixed media on paper

37.5 x 48 cm (24 3/4 x 18 3/4 in)

Quick Overview

By 1953 when this artwork was created, Lee Aguinaldo had just finished a three and a half year stint at the Culver Military Academy in Indiana. A period of internal conflict, he channeled his frustration in a vast number of figurative studies and vowed to seriously pursue his career in art upon his return to Manila. Coupled with a new friendship with Fernando Zobel, the ‘50s was a period of exploration in Aguinaldo’s career as seen through his experimentation with flattened forms and expressive strokes.
