This commoda conforms to the Ilocos diagnostics, except for some features that set it apart from the norms. Some areas on the one-piece top have the line grooves slightly rubbing out, a good sign of age and actual use. Propelling the top is the moulded support shaped like the hull of a champan boat with rounded corners. The presence of old glass handles would suggest a retractable drawer but it doesn’t come out; actually there’s a secret compartment under the table top, accessible through the inside of the cabinet doors – a safe place to hide money, important documents, jewelry, even guns in the olden days. Red narra wood is used on the main frame, highlighting the outlines at the front and on the sides. A highly desirable piece.
